This work starts with Antonios Mikhael, a man who spent 25 years in South Lebanon, a significant area in the Israeli-Arab and Israeli-Palestinian conflicts, who doesn’t bat an eye at the title of hero. In parallel, the concept of the idol is analyzed through the interrogation of the sacred figure, Youssef Bey Karam, known as the precursor of modern Lebanon. The intermediality and reflexivity within this short film reveal the mechanics of cinema, while also reflecting the constructed character of “History.” The voices of Lebanese interviewees revisit ideas of self-determination, memory and the nation-state, providing a look at how resistance stems from daily actions and alternative anti-colonial structures.
